How to save money on your grocery bill

Spread the love

In honor of April, Financial literacy month and because we want you to have money for all your months.

We know some of you made new year’s resolutions for 2022. By any chance, was saving money one of them? Let’s get started with how to save money on your grocery bill. Even if you didn’t take the time to make resolutions, you would still love these ideas because saving more money makes sense, especially in these times of uncertainty.

More savings means more possibilities, better vacations, thoughtful choices, and plentiful retirement. With that said, are you ready for some more cash?

Shop online: Hubby and I started shopping for groceries online for many reasons, 1. It saves time. 2. We don’t spend money on things we don’t need. 3. No rude customer service, no long lines, no waiting, and they have special parking for you upfront if you’re picking. Unless you go with WholeFoods and get your food delivered at home in the most luxuriously way ever 😊

How to save money on grocery bill

Shop with Cash: In a recent MIT review, they found consumers are willing to pay a whopping 83% more when paying with a card over cash. That’s because there’s a psychological factor at play with bills, causing people to feel more “pain” when parting with paper money instead of using a card.

Meal Plan: Shopping after work for the day’s dinner gets expensive. Plan a weekly menu before shopping and watch your grocery bill shrink.

Shop alone with a list: Shopping with my kids, even my husband brings up the bill. I don’t know; they must have that extra item that wasn’t on the list.

BOGO: Shop BOGO for things you use around the house and buy in bulk. Or use membership sites and share them with friends and family members. If you shop this month, they shop next month.

Coupon: they are still a thing (Sunday Paper, and they come in the mail:)

Shop in seasons (The farmers market approach or local farmers): When there’s a lot of it around, it’s cheaper, and eating in seasons is healthy for your body. Don’t you know mother earth understands what your body needs? That’s why we have a change in seasons. Shopping at your local markets or fresh produce will help your community, but it will also help your pocket, and you won’t have to worry about what condition your food traveled through to end up on your table.

How to save money on grocery bill

Don’t buy nongrocery items at the grocery store: If you want to overpay, shop at grocery stores for your health care products or hygiene products.

Don’t waste money on prepared foods:

  • Instead, prepare meals ahead of time and freeze them.
  • Double a recipe when cooking.
  • Freeze the second for a hectic day coming up.

It might seem easy, but you pay a high price for convenience with your pocket and your health. Making meals at home means fewer preservatives, healthy options, less sugar, and more.

Funny, but take your shopping bags, so you don’t have to pay for the one most grocery stores are selling nowadays.

Lastly, use Rakuten:
