How to Support Women-Owned Businesses This Month!

Spread the love

Happy Women’s History Month

How can we support women-owned businesses? Starting a business is not easy, but embarking on the journey as a woman in a male-dominated society is even more challenging. The purpose of this month is to support and celebrate the success of women. Below is a list of ways you can support your favorite women-owned businesses this month, throughout this year, and for the rest of your life.

13 Ways to Support Women-Owned Businesses This Month!

The support you provide women in business goes beyond buying food for their children. Your support helps in advancing women’s equality and contributing to the development of our future business leaders.

Hopefully I’ve convinced you of the benefit of investing in a women-owned business this month. (´。• ◡ •。`) ♡

Here are 13 ways to support this month.
  1. Shop: Locate a women-owned business next time you’re out and buy their products and services. Buy some handmade soap, lotion, and book them for coaching or an event. Most likely everything you shop, there’s a woman in business doing exactly that. Shop with them, shop with purpose, and make a difference.
  2. Send them a referral: Another excellent way to support them is by word-of-mouth referrals. Your friends will trust you any day over the television commercial. Every doctor, dentist, and car mechanic I used came from a referral from someone I know.
  3. Leave a review: Wow, this is a must. Now a day, not only do I check reviews, but I also leave reviews, and many people will go to google and search for companies before making a call. People are busy, so if someone took the time to go online to write a review, either the service was great or terrible. One thing you can be sure of is reviews speak volumes. So, leave your girls a review next time you shop with them or use their services.
  4. Invite them to speak at your next event: Whether you’re hosting one or working with your team, you can invite women business owners to speak at events, allowing them to share their products and services with a large audience at once. It is great exposure.
  5. Send a thank you card: If you receive good service, send a thank you card letting them know how they did. They will appreciate it and even put it up for others to see. If you can, take a picture of the restaurant or with the owner or an employee. If you put their photo on the card, they will treasure it even more.
  6. Take one out for coffee: Invite a woman in business out for coffee, pick their brain, and let them talk about their vision and why they in business. Maybe take them out for a few hours away from the noise – they can use the break.
  7. Share your expertise: Share your business and/or skills with them. Maybe you handle something that can help them grow. It could be ways to grow on social media, marketing tips, or décor. Share whatever it is you think can help your women friends win in business.
  8. Volunteer: Give them your time. If you’re off on the weekends and you can help by giving them a few hours to help organize their store, their social media accounts, or answer calls, do it. That is valuable!
  9. Have your kids be interns: Lend them your kids 😊. Your children will learn and grow, and you will be helping your community. Your kids most likely have skills businesses can use. Let them intern with women-business owners so they can learn how to go into business for themselves and serve.
  10. Buy gift cards for friends and family: Buy gift cards and give them out at events during the holiday. It will encourage people to visit your friends’ shops or call for their services.
  11. Be an investor: Yes, yes. One of the many reasons why people don’t go into business for themselves is lack of capital. Even when you build that business you still need consistent cash flow to run it for the first 5 to 10 years. Help your women in business by being an investor. If the objective is sound, it will be a win-win-win. Win for you, win for her and win for the economy.
  12. Donate: Maybe you don’t have the capital to be an investor, but how about being a donor? Every little bit counts. Don’t underestimate the power of 3 that gets 3. If you can get a group of people together and get them to start a little fundraiser, you could raise big donations and support more than one woman in business.
  13. Post about them on social media: finally, everyone and I mean everyone, even my dad at age 67 is on social media. One of the best ways to reach people today is through social media. Sharing a post promoting a woman in business could be a big deal for her. Don’t misjudge the power of a social media post.

Hopefully, you found at least one way to celebrate and support women-owned businesses.

  1. I love that you included volunteering and donations because it seems so selfless. I think they also work great for nonprofit organizations led by women, not only for businesses.

  2. I love your idea to send them a referral. I so often want to support sooo many small businesses, but I can only do so much as one person. So the referral idea is great! It’s a free way to show your support. Great post!
